Janco was founded in 1993 by Ron Jansen. Prior to founding Janco, Ron owned and operated Star Auto Company, a truck repair and equipment shop in Sully, dating back to the 1970s.
Janco's start came when Ron purchased Pella Industries and started out recovering husking rolls for the seed corn industry. After four years, the company began work in the metal fabrication industry by offering welding services. In 1998, Ron and Joel purchased the company's first laser.
Ron retired and sold both of his businesses to his sons. Janco continued the company's tradition of superior contract manufacturing.
In August of 2010, Janco co-purchased Handy Industries, LLC, located in Marshalltown, Iowa. Handy manufactures motorcycle/ATV/UTV lifts, louvered tailgates, shop equipment, and accessories, and has prided itself in American-made products since 1964. Janco now owns and manufactures the entire Handy product line.

An explosion in Janco's Sully plant caused a devastating fire that consumed the welding and saw departments. Prior plans for a new location for the Handy division of the company expanded to include all operations of both Janco and Handy in a 75,000 square foot facility to be located in the Sully Industrial Park.
Janco owners Joel and Deann Jansen broke ground on the new facility, located on the south west corner of Sully's Industrial Park.
A brand-new, 75,000 square foot manufacturing facility opened in Sully, bringing nearly 50 employees of Janco and Handy together under the same roof for the first time.
Iowa Governor Terry Branstad visited Sully to celebrate the new facility with the Jansens and the entire company.
In early 2018, Janco completed their first ever ISO registration audit and received ISO 9001 Certification in April.
